This year, the results of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) have been revealed. A total of 10 students received the prestigious "Top Scholar" title, including 8 boys and 2 girls from 8 different secondary schools. Among them, 8 students achieved the highest 14-star "Super Top Scholar" status, setting a new record. Notably, one of these scholars is from a school in its first year of offering the DSE.

St. Paul’s Co-educational College in Central and Western District was thrilled to have two super top male scholars, including Ouyang Zhangwei. He excelled in Physics, Chemistry, Economics, and the Extended Part M2 of Mathematics, achieving the highest scores of 5** in all 7 subjects and meeting the standard in Citizenship. He expressed immense excitement and amazement at his outstanding results, admitting that he never anticipated such a high achievement.

Ouyang Zhangwei on Citizenship Studies

As one of the first students to take Citizenship Studies, Ouyang Zhangwei described the new curriculum structure as challenging. He noted that many aspects were different from the previous Liberal Studies course, including the exam format and learning content, which required time to adapt. He believes that diligent revision and memorizing factual examples are essential for mastering Citizenship Studies.

Ouyang Zhangwei’s 4 Study Tips

The super top scholar shared four key study tips:

  1. Take Breaks: Schedule short study sessions of one hour during holidays to avoid burnout.
  2. Balance: Use activities like listening to music, playing badminton, and reading to maintain a balance between work and relaxation.
  3. Seek Advice: Consult senior top scholars for study materials and methods.
  4. Self-Discipline: Manage yourself strictly to become hardworking and disciplined.

Ouyang Zhangwei on Overcoming Challenges

Coming from a modest family, Ouyang Zhangwei’s parents invested all their resources to support his education at the prestigious St. Paul’s Co-educational College. He felt that many of his peers had knowledge levels far exceeding his own, which was previously unimaginable to him. This realization made him question whether having more resources meant being able to achieve more. He hopes to use his study of Economics to address issues of unequal resource distribution in society, aiming to make education and social welfare more equitable. He wishes to help disadvantaged communities with aspirations and limited resources to achieve their goals.
