Most children who do not excel academically do not have issues with their intelligence; some are even gifted. The main issues are a lack of motivation, inadequate exam skills, and the absence of a mentor to nurture them.
From personal experience, I was second to last in my grade for Chinese and English in primary school. During Chinese New Year, relatives would joke to my parents that if I could graduate from secondary school, it would already be a great achievement. Fortunately, my parents did not give up on me and found an expensive tutoring center. The tutors there did not use traditional rote learning methods. Instead, they guided me through questions, summaries, and even role-playing, which significantly improved my grades. Eventually, I achieved excellent results in my college entrance exams and was admitted to my desired university.
During this period, I also worked as a private tutor and in tutoring centers, experimenting with my teaching methods and frequently discussing and sharing them with like-minded friends.
